Bible Verses to Pray for Your Children

A couple of years ago, I read the book Praying Circles Around the Lives of Your Children by Mark Batterson. I was searching for a way to make my prayer time more meaningful and most of my prayers are centered around my children.  I wanted to be more intentional about using Bible verses to pray over my children each day.

In the book, Batterson encourages readers to actually circle the promises in the Bible and claim them when they pray.  I have been journaling in my Bible for almost two years and as I work through different passages, I have started circling those Bible verses that speak to me as promises for my children.

Bible Verses to Pray for Wisdom for Raising Your Child

As a parent, for many years you are the wisest and most knowledgeable person in your child’s life.  With that, comes a huge responsibility.  Your child didn’t come with a manual on how to train them or what to say.  There is no index to check on how to handle different situations.  There is no glossary with definitions of the emotions and challenges you will feel at different times in your parenting journey.

You need wisdom.  You need patience and you probably need it right now!  God has the answers to your needs and He has a ready supply of both wisdom and patience.

  • 1 Peter 5:6-7 ~  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
  • Matthew 11:28-30 ~ “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
  • Hebrews 4:16 ~  Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
  • Galatians 6:9 ~  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
  • Joshua 24:15 ~  But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
  • Matthew 7:7 ~  “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
  • Joshua 1:9 ~ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
  • Psalm 20:4 ~ May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.

Prayer for Wisdom and Patience ~ Using Bible Verses and Promises

Father in Heaven, Today I’m short on wisdom and even shorter on patience.  I’m tired and emotionally drained.  I love being a mom, but some days it is so much work.  You have commanded me to be strong and courageous and I’m trying to hold on.  Thank you for being my Lord and for being with me wherever I go.  Thank you for promising to strengthen and help me.  Please hold me up, just now, with your righteous right hand.  Your strong arm!

Today, I am choosing to serve you.  Help me teach __________ to serve You too.  Thank you for Your grace and that it is sufficient for me today.  I praise you for promising to hear and answer my prayers.  Thank You for multiplying my abilities and covering my weaknesses with your grace and forgiveness.  I am knocking and waiting for You to open the door.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Joshua 23:14 ~  “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.

Mom praying Bible promises for her children.

As you pray for your children, write down the answers to prayer that you witness.  Sometimes, you may feel like Elijah when he prayed for rain 7 times and didn’t get an answer until the 7th time.  Even if you don’t see an immediate answer, God hears your heart cries and He loves your children so much that He sent His son to save them.  His love is so much deeper than yours will ever be.

One thing I’ve learned through praying for my family is that I don’t have to convince God that He needs to save them.  He’s already prepared the way for that and wants nothing less than that for each one of us.
