There are 7 very important prayers that were prayed in the Bible. Each of these powerful prayers was prayed by someone in need of something. But, unlike a prayer asking for a specific thing, these powerful prayers in the Bible were asking for a change for the individual who was praying.
When you think of important prayers, you might think about King Solomon praying for wisdom, and then the answer to his prayer was that he became the wisest man on earth. Or you might also think about Mary and Martha praying that Lazarus would be well and not die. But I believe that the most important prayers have to do with heart issues. Asking God to change our hearts.
Yes, we should pray about everything and God hears those prayers just as much as the heart prayers, but when we pray for a change in us, God can answer that prayer and we see the outcome in our own lives.

7 Important Prayers in the Bible
When you begin to look at the different prayers in the Bible, you will find prayers for financial success, expanded territories, victory over enemies, healing, relationships, and children. But the important prayers that stand out are the ones where people are praying for a change in themselves. These important prayers bring the pray-er into a closer connection with the God of the universe and give an open invitation for that same God to work in their own life.
God loves nothing more than to hear that we want to be more like Him, to know Him more, forgive, have more faith, and understand His word. When we pray these important prayers, He is always listening and ready to act on our behalf.
Create in me a Clean Heart Psalm 51:10
David was a wonderful example of powerful prayers in the Bible. Because so many of his prayers are written down in the book of Psalms, we can see that David prayed about everything. He prayed for victory over his enemies, he prayed for safety, he prayed for his son, and he prayed for his nation.
But if you look at the general theme of David’s prayers, he most often prayed for a heart after God. As he prayed for a clean heart, a pure heart, a steadfast heart, and praised God with his whole heart.
The heart of the matter here is that David recognized the heart of the matter. Without a clean heart, he wasn’t able to fully follow God. Without a pure heart, his motives might be pulled to the left or to the right. Without a steadfast heart, his heart might stray away from God.
Powerful daily prayers for your heart:
Dear Lord, Please give me a clean heart today! Help me not to hide any selfishness, bitterness, or distraction that would keep me from be whole-heartedly committed to You. I don’t know how to do this on my own, as I’ve struggled with all of these things. Please take my heart and make me a woman after your heart. One who is daily committed to following you. Thank you for the work you are doing in my life right now. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Lord, save us! Matthew 8:25
If you remember the story, the disciples were in the boat with Jesus and a great storm came up. They were terrified and thought for sure they were going to die in the storm. Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep in the boat, resting.
Have you ever been in a “storm” where you thought you might not make it? Maybe it wasn’t an actual storm with thunder and lightning, but perhaps it was a storm of a situation, a broken relationship, a devastating diagnosis, or some other equally overwhelming situation. It may seem like God is sleeping in the boat, not caring that you are battling the storm “alone”, but when you ask Him to save you, He will always be there.
The storm might not stop instantly as it did for the disciples, but God can fill your heart with peace in the midst of the storm. The disciples thought they were praying for safety from the storm, but Jesus knew they also needed salvation.
Powerful daily prayers for your salvation:
Dear Father in Heaven, I have storms in my life right now. There are situations that I don’t know how to handle. Overwhelming things that are too big for me. I don’t know what to do, where to turn, and it seems like you are far away. Please hear my heart cry and save me. Give me the peace of your presence, knowing that you can control the storm with a few words. You have already paid the price for my salvation, and I want to accept that gift again today. Please help me to live in the knowledge of your salvation, knowing that I can’t do anything to make you love me more. And I also can’t do anything to make you love me less. Thank you that you are consistently in the midst of the storm with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Give me understanding so that I may keep your law and obey with all my heart Psalm 119:34
Another example from David. David prayed often that God would help him keep His laws. When we ask God to help us understand the Bible so we can obey Him, He loves to hear that we are searching to understand Him more. The more you understand God’s love and His commandments and what they truly mean, you will naturally want to obey all of His commands.
Sometimes, you may be tempted to search the scriptures to prove a point, but when you search the Bible with an open heart and mind and ask for God’s understanding as you study, He will guide you and open your eyes to the truths you are seeking.
Powerful daily prayers for understanding:
Dear God, I want to know You more and follow your commands. I want to follow you with all my heart. Please open my eyes as I search, learn, and study about You. Help me to understand the things I need to understand so that I can follow you more fully. If I’ve misunderstood things in the Bible in the past, or currently hold my own understanding, please open my eyes to understand Your will for my life and to follow You completely. Thank you for hearing my prayers and for the way you have led in my life in the past. Help me to walk with You today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
I believe, Help my Unbelief Mark 9:24
Unbelief rests in each of our hearts. This sentiment was expressed by the father of a boy who was possessed by evil spirits. When he brought his son to Jesus, he begged Jesus to heal his son. The father asked Jesus if He could, would he please heal his son. Jesus replied to the man’s question about whether he could or not.
The father responds to Jesus, “I believe, help my unbelief.”
In your life, there are probably many times when you worry about things, try to “fix” things so they go right, or work extra hard to make things work out. But often these are simply ways that we show our unbelief in Jesus’ power and ability to take care of us. We worry because we don’t think God will fix it for us. Or we worry because we’re not sure His will is going to be the same as our will and that can feel scary.
But in this story of the father and son, because the father was able to express his need for more faith, his son was healed.

Powerful daily prayer for faith:
Dear Father in Heaven, you have provided for me even when I didn’t realize it was your providence. You have given me so many things and I am so grateful for that. I want to trust you in the all the details and all the big things, but I often feel overwhelmed. I begin to worry and I know that is a result of my small faith. You’ve promised that if we have the faith of a mustard seed, we can move mountains. Help my faith in You to grow. Help me where my unbelief is settled in selfishness, self-sufficiency, and self-importance. Help me to focus my eyes on You and recognize that all the good in my life is from You. Please take my worries and concerns and nourish my faith. Thank You! In Jesus’ precious name, amen.
Not my Will, But Yours Matthew 26:42
Jesus’ example of powerful prayers in the Bible was in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew His time was short and that His betrayer would soon be at hand. The situation was so overwhelming to Him that He prayed that God would take the “cup” or circumstance from Him. But even though He was overwhelmed, He asked that God’s will be done.
You are probably not facing death on a cross right now, but your circumstance might feel just as overwhelming. You know what you’d like to see happen and have an idea of the solution, but praying for God’s will not yours is a powerful prayer. Just like giving your worries to God and asking for more faith, when you pray for God’s will instead of your own, you are recognizing that God’s will is better than yours.
Sometimes, the outcome may be the same between your will and God’s will, but often, we only see a tiny piece of the grand plan or picture that God is working on in our life. When we ask for God’s will to be done, we are entrusting our future to Him, knowing that His plans for our lives are good and not evil.
Just like God’s plan for Jesus’ death was good in the end, Jesus couldn’t see through the tomb at that point. He was overwhelmed with grief, the pain of the loss of Judas’ betrayal, His disciples’ lack of faith, and the weight of the sins of the world.
When He prayed for God’s will, He was entrusting His life into God’s hands, knowing that God’s plan was perfect.

Powerful daily prayer for God’s will in your life:
Dear Father in Heaven, there are so many things in life that I want. Situations that I want fixed a certain way, successes I dream of, and challenges I would like to avoid or have disappear. I know that you want what is best for me and I can’t always see the end picture. Please work Your will in my life. In this situation, in this struggle, in this medical issue, help me to trust in your unfailing love for me. Strengthen my faith and keep reminding me that You have already overcome these challenges. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers and for the security that I have knowing that You’ve promised salvation, in spite of the trials of this world. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Though He Slay Me, Yet Will I Trust Him Job 13:15
You may be familiar with Job’s story. He seemed to be an example of the war between good and evil. As he lost everything, his wealth, his livelihood, his children, and then his health, he continued to be steadfast. Somehow he knew that God was not doing these hurtful things to him, but rather, God was with him through the devastation.
For Job to be able to say the oft-quoted verse “though He slay me, yet will I trust Him” show just how deep his trust and confidence in God was.
When you are going through difficult times or situations, it is easy to blame God and feel angry that He isn’t protecting you or preventing certain things from happening. But if you can remember the great controversy that is going on between God and Satan, it helps to realize that sometimes we are the pawns in Satan’s hands. Trying to convince us that God doesn’t care, or that God isn’t powerful enough to heal us or protect us.
This type of unwavering faith comes from days and years of trusting God through fair weather and storms. It comes from realizing that over time, Satan is trying to destroy everyone and everything in every way possible. But his time will run out and then we will see the true picture – the complete picture. The one where God is victorious and has a beautiful plan for us in Heaven for eternity with Him.
A powerful daily prayer for unwavering trust in God:
Dear God, it seems so unfair that Job had to suffer so much. He was faithful and yet he was accused, betrayed, and lost almost everything he had. But yet he faithfully trusted in You. I pray today that You will help me to have that kind of faith. Help me to trust that the current outcome isn’t the final outcome. I know that the final outcome has already been provided and I want to accept that. Help me to have the strength to endure the current situations and difficulties and not blame You, but rather trust You through them. Keep my heart steadfast, no matter what. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Forgive Me Ps. 19:12, Ps. 25:11, Ps. 79:9, Matthew 6:12, Luke 11:4
The final important prayer is a prayer asking God to forgive you. No matter how hard you try to live a perfect life, you are still a sinner. Every single person on earth has the need to ask for forgiveness.
1 John 1 promises that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” If you believe that God’s promises are true, then you also have to believe that He will forgive your sins when you ask for forgiveness. This is one of the most powerful prayers in the Bible because God will always forgive when you ask with a repentant heart.

Powerful daily prayer for forgiveness:
Dear Jesus, I’ve blown it again. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve caused harm, I’ve said things that weren’t completely true or were unkind. Please forgive me! You’ve promised forgiveness when I ask, and I come to You today asking again. I want to be like You. I want my life to be a reflection of You and the kind of gracious, loving, God You are, but I keep messing up. Thank You for coming to this earth to die on the cross for me and my sins. Help me to grow more like You. Help me also to give forgiveness to those who have hurt me. Thank You for taking my sins and making me clean again. I love you! In Jesus’s name, amen.
