Bible Verses About Worry

There are so many things in life that feel overwhelming and out of your control.  It is easy to fall into a spirit of fear or constant state of worry even though you don’t have any ability to change the outcome.  Worry can cause tension in relationships, health issues, sleeplessness, weight gain, and a host of other things that are not positive additions to your own peace in life.

When you find yourself weighed down with worries, the best place to turn to is God’s word.  He has given us promises, encouragement, and support that is always there – we just need to seek His help.

The following 30 Bible verses about not worrying can be used as a daily reminder to shift your focus from the problem to the heart of God who can take care of the problem.  By daily giving your worries to God through prayer, Bible study, and journaling, you can live a life that is happier and filled with joy, knowing that God’s plans include taking care of you and your worries.

  • John 16:33  ~ “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
  • Psalm 4:8 ~In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
  • Isaiah 26:3 ~ You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
  • Isaiah 52:7 ~ How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
  • Isaiah 54:10 ~ Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
  • John 14:27 ~ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
  • John 16:33 ~ “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
  • Romans 15:13 ~ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Deuteronomy 31:6 ~ Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
  • Deuteronomy 31:8 ~ The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
  • Joshua 1:9 ~ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
  • Psalm 118:6 ~ The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
  • Proverbs 3:24 ~ When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

Matthew 6:25-34 ~“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Bible Verses About Worrying About Tomorrow

As you continue reading through these Bible verses about not worrying about tomorrow, you know that today has enough worries of it’s own.  You certainly don’t need to worry about tomorrow too.  But simply giving your worries to God through Bible verses can seem difficult to do. The negative thoughts, times of trouble, fear of man, or the darkest valley, can all become a place of peace as you give these burdens into God’s mighty hand knowing that “all things work together for good” for the purpose of God.

You may have heard the phrase “let go and let God” but what does that really mean and how do you actually do it?  It’s simple and difficult all at the same time.

When you think about the things that you are worried about today, they may be things that are yet to come 5, 10, or 20 years from now, or they may be things that may or may not happen in the next few minutes such as a medical appointment you are waiting for, or a phone call after a job interview.

There are so many scriptures on not worrying about things and that’s the perfect place to start.  My favorite go to spot is Jeremiah 29:11.  I read this one often to remind myself that whatever happens God wants to give me hope and a future.  Once you find your starting place of hope, build on it depending on your circumstance.

Read these Bible verses about not worrying often to remind yourself that God is in control and He is offering you peace.

  • John 14:27 ~ Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
  • Psalm 91:1-16 selected~ “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”…He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
  • You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you…
  • For he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways…“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him…”
  • Prov. 3:25-26 ~ Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the LORD will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

Find Peace as You Give Your Worries to God

The opposite of worry is peace.  The Bible is filled with promises and verses that remind us not to fear and that God wants to give us peace.  When we are in the midst of turmoil and trouble, it’s hard to feel at peace.  But God can calm your fears, give you strength, and give you peace.

One of my favorite Bible characters about fear and God giving strength is the story of Joshua.  God gave Joshua a tremendous role to fill following Moses’ death.  The Bible doesn’t really say that Joshua was scared or afraid, but in the first few chapters of the book of Joshua, God tells Joshua over and over again to be strong and courageous!  You can read more about Joshua here.

Here are the last of the 30 Bible Verses about not worrying…

  • Psalm 55:22 ~ “Castyour cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.”
  • Isaiah 35:4 ~ “Tell everyone who is discouraged, Be strong and don’t be afraid! God is coming to your rescue…”
  • Psalm 23:4 ~ “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I willfear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
  • Philippians 4:6-7 ~ “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
  • Psalm 56:3 ~ “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

  • Romans 8:38-39 ~ “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”
  • Hebrews 13:6 ~ So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
  • Jeremiah 29:11 ~ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.“
